Young guns win footy title

RUGBY LEAGUE: The Chinchilla Bulldogs under-14s team capped off a dream season with a 32-10 win over a determined Murgon in the grand final on Saturday.

The Bulldogs won every game this season but coach Matt Moore made sure his charges didn't go into the decider complacent.

"You can never be too confident going into a game and grand finals are a different type of footy,” Moore said.

"The boys played a good, confident brand of footy. They started off a bit nervous but when they settled down they played smart football and played it well.”

Moore refused to name any single player, instead declaring the entire team had contributed to the win.

"It was a good team effort,” he said. "Our forwards laid a good platform for our halves and then that gave our backs enough space to dominate.”

Moore said he knew at the start of the season that he had a formidable line-up but even he was surprised by the level of success.

"I knew we had a good group of kids, the older ones are all great and the younger ones all really stood up throughout the year when we needed them to,” Moore said.

"We hardly had a kid miss a training session.”

With the curtains now drawn on the season and the trophy tucked away in Chinchilla, the premiership- winning coach is hopeful all of the boys will return to go around again in 2018.

"The older boys will go into under 16s now and hopefully the younger ones stick around and they can help lead the 14s team next year,” he said.
