WATCH: Huge crocodile spotted sunbaking near anglers

A HUGE crocodile was captured enjoying the sun on Saturday, just metres from anglers fishing and crabbing.

The reptile, estimated to be close to 4m in length, wasn't spooked by boats whizzing past as he lazed on a sandbank along the Burdekin River, not far from the Groper Creek caravan park boat ramp.

The weekend's sighting came on the very day the LNP released their proposed crocodile management plan which would allow qualified park rangers to shoot and kill crocodiles on the spot.

Crocodiles are regularly sighted in the area, but many residents of Groper Creek commented on just how unfazed the big reptile was around boats.

A fisherman, and his small dog, was fishing in a small tinny only metres from where the croc was sighted on Saturday, and others pulling up crab pots nearby.

While the videos were shot, the crocodile spent about five minutes just sitting on the sandbank, and as the boat motor started up, he turned and slid into the water where he just lay still as the boat left.

Boats and vehicles must never be brought within 10m of an estuarine crocodile in the wild.
