Tech firm ranked as one of the best workplaces
A tech firm that started in a Townsville garage has been recognised among the 50 best places to work in Australia.
SafetyCulture, founded by chief executive Luke Anear in 2004, has become one of the country's biggest IT success stories, creating a global market for its workplace inspection and checklist app iAuditor.
SafetyCulture announced a successful $60.5 million capital raising earlier this year, valuing the company at $1.35 billion. This week the firm, which has offices in Townsville and Sydney as well as overseas, was included among the 50 companies in the 2020 Best Places to Work in Australia study.
The study by Great Place To Work Australia listed SafetyCulture at number 4 in the category of businesses with between 100 and 999 employees.
The study says SafetyCulture employs 202 people, and launched initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic to boost morale and keep employees mentally and physically healthy.
"ClassPass was launched for all employees which gave them access to online fitness videos," the study says.
"A new employee assistance program with a mental fitness app was launched to help their employees access professional support during the challenging period.
"On Friday nights, SafetyCulture created a virtual bar.
"The bar comprises a variety of different online rooms which include activities such as board games, raves, wine cellar, and many more."
Great Place to Work managing director Zrinka Lovrencic said the 50 companies on the list sprang into action early in the pandemic.
"The best found a way to replace the water cooler in the office with a virtual one," Ms Lovrencic said.
"Tools such as Slack, Hangout, Signal, and video conferencing platforms enabled people to come together and experience a digital face-to-face interaction, whether to discuss work or have a coffee break with a colleague."
