Man accused of attacking three people over drugs

A TOOGOOM man accused of assaulting three people over drugs will find out tomorrow if his bail application has been approved.

Warren William Peter Lohman, 23, will remain in police custody as Acting Magistrate Neil Lavering considers his bail application to charges including assault occasioning bodily harm and assault occasioning bodily harm while armed with an offensive instrument.

In Maryborough Magistrates Court yesterday, police prosecutor Sergeant Kathryn Stagoll said Lohman was accused of attacking three people in their home in a fight over drugs.

Lohman was charged yesterday by Hervey Bay detectives in relation to the alleged offences.

Sgt Stagoll objected to the bail application because of the nature of the charges.

"May I point out the concerns of re-offending which is a danger to the community," Sgt Stagoll said.

"My certain concerns include an ongoing threat of violence towards the community."

She said Lohman's actions towards witnesses stopped them from coming forward with evidence for some time.

"Safety is paramount for them and they were scared of retribution," she said.

"There wasn't evidence for some time to lay charges."

Defence lawyer Damon Locantro said the alleged "fear of witnesses" was not evidence.

Acting Magistrate Neil Lavering said he would need some time to consider the bail application properly.

Lohman did not enter a plea, and will appear before the court again tomorrow at 9am.
