Tom Jones and Noel Gallagher announced for Bluesfest 2016
UPDATE: FURTHER to this morning's announcement of Tom Jones and Noel Gallagher joining Bluesfest 2016, it has also been revealed that singer-songwriter Jackson Browne has joined the line up.
Jackson Browne has written and performed some of the most literate and moving songs in popular music and has defined a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics.
In a career spanning over 45 years, he has released nineteen albums: 11 Top 40, four platinum, three multi-platinum, and two Gold. 1977's Running on Empty is seven times platinum.
Beyond his music, Browne is known for his advocacy on behalf of the environment, human rights, and arts education.
He was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2007, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 by Bruce Springsteen, who said to Browne of The Eagles "You wrote the songs they wished they had written".
INITIAL REPORT: LIVING music legend Tom Jones and former Oasis front man Noel Gallagher are part of the second line up announcement for Bluesfest 2016.
Tom Jones will be appearing at Bluesfest for the first time next year.
Over his 50-year career, Tom Jones has sold over 100 million records, won a Grammy and two Brit Awards and given us countless hits including such as It's Not Unusual, Delilah ,Green, Green Grass of Home, What's New Pussycat , She's a Lady, Kiss, Mama Told Me, Thunderball, Burning Down The House , Sex Bomb, I'll Never Fall In Love Again and If I Only Knew.
Also headlining today's announcement is Noel Gallagher, who will be performing at Bluesfest with his band, the High Flying Birds.
Noel Gallagher, the principal songwriter, lead guitarist and vocalist for multi-platinum, award-winning band Oasis is also making his Bluesfest debut next year.
Oasis won six Brit Awards, and the band was nominated for 92 awards, winning 37 of them, including Top of the Pops, NME Awards and MTV Awards to name a few.
The second announcement also includes American indie folk rock band The Decemberists, singer-songwriter Jason Isbell, alternative Country artist Sturgill Simpson, Wilco front man Jeff Tweedy and American Rock, Country and Folk singer Steve Earle.
World / Folk / Hip-Hop / Roots music collective Nahko and Medicine For The People, known for their unrelentingly positive and energetic shows absolutely blew the Bluesfest crowd away in 2014 and will be sharing their spiritual, socially conscious message at Bluesfest once again next Easter.
Festival director Peter Noble was happy to share the news.
"Yes, there are more announcements to come and Bluesfest will continue to present 'the' best artists across a slew of genres, so hold on to your hats and get out your cheque books, we have an absolute Bluesfest classic coming your way," he said.
Bluesfest Byron Bay 2016 will be held in Tyagarah over Easter, just north of Byron Bay, between Thursday, March 24 and Monday, March 28, 2016.
