Man faces court accused of raping teen

A 21-YEAR-OLD man accused of rape arising from the alleged sexual assault of two teenage girls in Toowoomba had his case mentioned again before the city's Magistrates Court yesterday.

The man, who cannot be named unless committed to trial on the charge, was not in court for the brief mention of the matter but was represented by Legal Aid Queensland solicitor Kyna Morice.

Ms Morice told the court her client was now subject to an involuntary treatment order under the Mental Health Act and sought an adjournment.

It was likely the matter would be referred to the Mental Health Court, she said.

The accused has not as yet been required to enter any plea to the charge of rape arising from alleged incidents involving two girls, aged 14 and 15, at a Toowoomba home in January.

At his initial appearance before the same court in January, the accused man indicated he would contest the charge.

Police opened an investigation after the two girls complained they had been raped at a Toowoomba home by two men with whom they had left a party that weekend.

Police claimed the girls had willingly gone with the men to their Toowoomba home where they claimed they were sexually assaulted.

At his initial appearance in court, the court heard police investigators were still looking for a second accused in relation to the matter.

However, no one else at this stage has been charged.

The 21-year-old accused man remains on bail with strict conditions.

Magistrate Graham Lee adjourned his case to August 18 for mention back in the same court.
