Teen loses control of car, becomes airborne, in street race
AN ALLEGED two vehicle race down a suburban Rockhampton street last night could have ended in tragedy for the teenage drivers after one lost control sending his car airborne before landing on its roof.
Both teens, one of whom was from Caboolture, survived their alleged road race and will appear in court charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Police will allege the vehicles were speeding south along Lower Dawson Road, Allenstown around 7.30pm when the 18-year-old driver of one of the cars lost control.
His vehicle collided with the medium strip, became airborne and flipped, landing on its roof in the northbound lanes of Lower Dawson Road, near the intersection with Wakefield Street.
The car collided with a northbound car causing minor damage to that vehicle.
The two 18-year-olds in the vehicle were lucky to escape serious injury with the passenger being transported to Rockhampton Base Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Both male drivers - a 17-year-old from Gracemere and an 18-year-old from Caboolture - are due to appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on November 3.
