Tara's swimming resurgence

Swimming: It might have been the town's first one in 10 years but it was all smooth sailing as Tara Swimming Club held it's new carnival this month.

More than 80 competitors - ranging from three-year-olds to adults - met at the Tara pool for a day of competition on Saturday, February 16.

They came from as far as Logan and Roma, as well as Bell, Jandowae, Chinchilla, Condamine, Moonie, and of course the Tara locals.

Tara Swimming Club president David Gunther said for many of them it was their firs swimming meet.

"We had some really good races, some kids did up to 10 second PBs which was amazing, so it was a really good hit out for a lot of kids too who are looking to go on to south west trials in Chinchilla on Friday,” Gunther said.

A new timing system purchased using an Origin grant helped the say run particularly efficiently, while life members from more than a decade ago showed up to help out.

"Our referee for the day was an old life member (Peter Prain), so that was great, he even had a grandchild swimming that day, so that was good to see,” Gunther said.

"We had the school principal, he did the starting for us, Craig Homer.

"He grew up in Tara so it was great, he was there all day even though he was crook.”

The age champions were:
