Steve hangs up after fiery radio clash
Married At First Sight's Steve Burley hung up during a live radio interview this morning as he was grilled about his behaviour on the reality show.
Steve was dumped in last night's episode by his "wife" Mishel Karen who blasted him for stringing her along and wasting her time.
This morning Steve appeared on Hit 107's Bec and Cosi show, and Cosi immediately started quizzing the reality contestant about his refusal to be intimate with Mishel.
"Let's cut to the chase, all she wanted was a shag and you didn't give her one," Cosi said. "For god's sake, why didn't you shag her? What's wrong with ya mate? Can't ya get it up?"
Steve replied: "I couldn't give her a shag because pure and simply I wasn't ready to do so."
The interview quickly turned sour when Cosi asked Steve about his appearance on another reality show in the past.
"You're a bit of a serial offender when it comes to these dating shows - you were on Channel 7's show as well weren't you?" the radio host asked.
"What do you mean 'serial offender'?" Steve asked. "What do you mean?"
"Weren't you on First Dates as well?" Cosi said.
"Yeah, I was on First Dates a couple of years ago. Is that a crime?" Steve replied bluntly.
The interview went from bad to worse when Cosi and his co-host later returned to the topic of Steve's refusal to be intimate with Mishel.
The reality contestant hit back, claiming he should not have been pressured to do so if he wasn't comfortable.
"It's OK to discuss things like this with a man and say, 'Why didn't you do this, why didn't you do that?' But if the shoe was on the other foot and the pressure was being put upon Mishel to do this and do that with me, how would that have been?" Steve asked.
"That wouldn't have gone down well at all, would it? It would just not be right, and it's not right that I'm having the pressure put upon me to go to the next level with Mishel. Double standards."
Radio host Bec Morse replied, "I think that's a fair point," before Steve unleashed on the radio duo.
"Yeah, it is a bloody fair point," he said. "I'm talking to you at a quarter to eight in the morning and I feel as if I'm being attacked!"
"You're not being attacked," Cosi assured him. "We're asking you the question that everyone wants to know … you had this woman that was begging for a little bit of affection, a little bit of love, a little bit of action, and you wouldn't deliver and I'm just asking."
Steve replied, "What about my feelings? What about how I feel?"
Cosi sarcastically replied, "Gees, come here mate, I'll give you a big cuddle. It'll be all right."
The tongue-in-cheek comment only aggravated Steve further, and the MAFS contestant hung up on the interview.
To his credit, Steve has faced the music with several interviews since he was unceremoniously dumped in last night's episode.
Speaking to Talking Married, he said he felt he "got slammed" by Mishel, and he didn't agree with a lot of the things she said in her epic take-down speech.
"People have said to me, 'Oh Steve, you got humiliated'. Nah, I don't see it that way at all," he said. "At the end of the day, people are entitled to their own opinions. Just because Mishel said what she said doesn't necessarily mean it's true. It doesn't mean it's right, it doesn't mean it's wrong either."
Mishel also fronted up for interviews this morning. She appeared on KIIS FM and was asked by Kyle and Jackie O if she was still friends with Steve.
"We were talking for some time but no, we've cut ties altogether," she told the radio hosts.
Married At First Sight continues tonight at 7.30pm on Channel 9
