Next big global tech firm may hail from regional Queensland

THE next tech start-up giant could be yours.

Brisbane-based start-up hub River City Labs has turned its eye to regional Queensland in the search for tech companies to assist.

The River City Labs Accelerator program will offer five Queensland companies seed capital, working space, mentoring, training and access to global networks through River City and the Telstra-backed start-up accelerator muru-D.

A touring road show will be held in Brisbane, Ipswich, the Sunshine Coast and Bundaberg between now and August 14.

River City Labs general manager Peta Ellis said successful applicants would need to be in Brisbane for the program.

"Through the regional road shows, River City Labs hopes to drive home the message that regional start-ups are not at a disadvantage because of their location and that the services, financial support and mentoring offered by the accelerator program are also available to them," she said.

"Our Brisbane-based accelerator enables regional Queensland start-ups to access the quality muru-D program and mentoring without having to move to Sydney for three months," she said.

"It's always going to be a sacrifice, working away from home, however if a start-up is hungry enough they will do whatever it takes to succeed.

"If as a start-up, you find yourself feeling a little reluctant about applying to an accelerator program based in Brisbane, I encourage you to at least come along to one of the roadshow events and gain some further insight into just what a fantastic opportunity this program is."
