St Finbarr's reunion at Byron Bay celebrates 100 years

ST FINBARR'S Catholic Primary School Byron Bay celebrates 100 years on Saturday and Sunday June 11 and 12, 2016.

Past students and their families, teachers, principals, priests and friends are invited to celebrate this centenary.

The Sunday celebration, 11.00a - 4.00pm will see an interactive exhibition with photos, art work and memorabilia on display.

With thanks to Terry Bleakley, the Centenary Cinema will feature interviews of former students and family members, with their recollections.

"Our students have enjoyed studying St Finbarr's history and putting that knowledge in the context of Byron Bay's history.

"This celebration will give them a platform to showcase their creative and performing arts talents, as well as allow them to celebrate their learning with their families." Deputy Principal Carolyn Wade said.

On the Saturday morning the school will host tours which will be of special interest to all but especially to those not familiar with the new site.

For some families it will be a reunion, and for others it will be an opportunity to come back and see the new site and building developments that have occurred over the last 100 years.

This family friendly event will not only reflect on the last 100 years of the school but also the history of Byron Bay, and is open to all members of the community.

To celebrate the centenary a wonderful cookbook has been produced which contains not only recipes submitted by past and present students and families but also some iconic Byron Bay history and photographs.
