'Spectacular' Tara Cup
Horse Racing: If you only have one race day a year, you may as well make it spectacular.
That seems to be the plan for the Tara Race Club after holding another successful Tara Races on Saturday.
Featuring a five-race program and plenty of fun in between, club secretary Rhonda Dowling said it went off brilliantly.
"We're very pleased with the attendance,” Dowling said.
"We had a good day and everyone enjoyed themselves and partied on into the night.
"Our bar takings are the best we've ever had, so that's a bonus,” she said.
"And the best dressed lady and gent competition was a bit of a hit and created a lot of interest.”
Most races featured full fields and there was some good quality competition on show.
Race one was taken out by Sally Sweeney on El Demonio, while by Nathan Evans on Scrivano won race two.
Zoe White on The Intern nabbed the win in race three.
Adam Sewell on Hi Harry claimed the Tara Cup in race four, and the final race of the day was won by Paul Hamblin on Nero D'avola.
"I did see the end of the Cup and it was a hotly contested race,” Dowling said.
"The lady that trained the horse, she came from the Sunshine Coast.
"So that was nice that someone came all the way from the Coast to try and win it and they won it so they went home happy.”
Dowling said the day was on par with the 2017 event and the club was optimistic it could get bigger and better - providing they had enough volunteers to help run it.
Dowling also wished all volunteers and sponsors a big thank you for their support.
