"Special" brownies a recipe for trouble

A GATTON woman has fronted court after police found she was going to use cannabis to make "special brownies".

When police searched Helen Maree Stewart's house on February 23, and found a large bag of cannabis, Stewart told them it was old and she was going to chop it up to make brownies.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Steve De Lissa told the court police conducted the search warrant on Stewart's Cleary St residence on February 23.

"They found a small cannabis seedling plant, the large bag of cannabis, seedlings in a clip-sealed bag, scales and a water pipe used to smoke cannabis," Sgt De Lissa said.

"The large clip-sealed bag of cannabis weighed approximately 28 grams.

"Stewart told police she was going to gift the seedling plant to a friend."

The court heard Stewart had admitted to police she smoked occasionally, however she only used the scales to weigh up cannabis she had purchased, so she didn't get ripped off.

In Stewart's defence it was heard she suffered from some metal health issues.

Magistrate Damien Carroll advised Stewart, while there was moves to legalise medicinal marijuana, she needed a prescription from a doctor.

Stewart was sentenced to nine months probation with strict conditions for the drug charges.

Magistrate Carroll advised Stewart she must submit to random urine testing.

"If you are found with illegal drugs in your system, you will be back here to possibly be re-sentenced," Magistrate Carroll said.
