Southwest girls swing big

Softball: The girls from the bush kicked up the dust and took on the Queensland school girls state championships for softball.

The young team of girls from the southwest district headed to Rockhampton for the four-game tournament from August 30-September 2.

The team of 12 included girls aged between 10-12 from as far as Charleville to Chinchilla.

Coach Kate Kearnan said she was impressed with the girls efforts over the course of the competition.

"Although we had no wins the girls came away with smiles on their faces, new skills, friendships built and memories that will hopefully last a lifetime,” Kearnan said.

Kearnan said that herself and team manager Katie Lewis selected Lacey Riches as the most improved player of the tournament.

"The coaches award was presented to Amy Lorenz and Eve Radke, who both showed great achievements in their positions on the field and while running bases.”
