Show president proud as punch

AS THE Chinchilla Show Society recovers from a marathon week of preparing, running and the ensuing clean-up from the 104th Chinchilla Show, the sense of achievement is high.

“The show went off very successfully,” president Greg Stanke said.

“Crowd numbers were every bit as good as last year. I’m estimating (there were) 1500 (patrons through the gate) on the Friday. The numbers at the rodeo were huge. I would think they were bigger than last year as there was standing room only in the licensed area.”

Mr Stanke said there were healthy figures among the exhibitor, display and competitor numbers in just about every section of the show, with the pavilion even being full with the art, photography, cookery, handiwork, sewing, knitting, crochet, farm produce, florticulture, plants and school displays.

In a mere two days before the show, the society finally received the good news the gaming grant for grandstands had been approved, which they will certainly need if patron numbers were anything to go by.

“Given the mining population has wound down, we were more than happy with the report... regarding (show) attendance. The local public was very supportive,” Mr Stanke said.

“The new location of the gate was a great achievement as far as (controlling) traffic congestion (was concerned).

“We’re very proud. We got the crowd (numbers) there.”
