Shot at the live shows slips through Sally's fingers

SALLY Skelton was so captivating on The Voice tonight, her coach Kelly Rowland wanted to bend the rules to keep her on the show.

The 18-year-old Maroochydore singer performed a 'perfect' duet with Bojesse Pigram. The pair earned a standing ovation for their stripped-back rendition of Dancing On My Own.

In a throw-away line, Boy George suggested they form a duo but the idea quickly caught on.

"That was the best performance so far," Seal said. "You were both so good. If there was ever an argument for two people to go through a battle that was it right there.

"You two need to sing together. That was a really magjcal moment."

Kelly Rowland asked for clarification on the rules, and in the meantime asked the two singers what they thought about potentially progressing as a duo.

"Welcome to the music industry; this is what it's about," she said.

"You're literally sometimes made to make decisions on your own. It's OK to say yes and it's OK to say no."

Both young singers expressed their reservations, but after Sally said she'd be up for 'something new' Bojesse said he couldn't make such a sudden change from being a solo artist.

"It's so hard for me to say this but I wouldn't be able to commit to it fully," he said.

"I wouldn't be doing the right thing to any of us if I said yes to that halfheartedly, so no I wouldn't sorry."

Kelly was then forced to choose between the two.

"This has to go down in the history of being in the greatest battles because I'm literally at a loss for words," she said.

"I'm just going to go with my gut on this one. I'm going to go with Bojesse."

Bojesse paid tribute to Sally as a talent on the rise.

"Even in rehearsals I could tell this was a really special performance," he said.

"Sally you're an amazing, beautiful. wonderful singer. She's going to go far for sure."

Kelly encouraged Sally to record her album, and that's exactly what Sally's been working towards back home on the Coast since tonight's episode was filmed.

"I'm writing music at the moment, working on my original material," she told the Daily.

"When the show's finished I will release some music. Maybe I could get picked up by someone. I'm not making a solid plan as such just yet. I'm not leaving anything out of the question. I want to see what I get from this experience."

The Voice battles continue tomorrow at 7.30pm on Channel 9.
