Shining a blue light on the community

THERE’S nothing quite like a bit of Nutbush City Limits to really get a dance party under way, but there’s also a lot more going on behind the scenes of a Chinchilla Blue Light dance party than meets the eye.

Chinchilla police liaison officer Robyn Jennings said the local Blue Light committee was all about providing the community with safe, fun and affordable activities for all families, no matter their background, social status or income.

“We support youth under the age of 18 through the provision of safe, suitable entertainment and activities in an environment free from alcohol, drugs and violence,” she said.

“Chinchilla Blue Light is exploring options for next year such as the Blue Edge program and other youth development programs that can engage youth in Chinchilla.

“We will definitely be holding more discos next year, as well as some other events to engage our 13-17-year age group, so watch this space.”

All the funds raised at the discos and other events held go towards programs such as Blue Edge, which enable the committee to deliver more quality events and programs to the Chinchilla community.

“Our Chinchilla Blue Light Boxing Club has also been operating since July this year, with participants aged between 12-17 who we’ve identified as needing support with self-esteem and confidence and those who have been bullied,” officer Jennings said.

“We would also like to thank the numerous businesses in Chinchilla and community members that were generous in donating prizes, vouchers, food and cash donations.

“You all helped make our second dance party for the year a huge success.”

The Blue Light committee would also like to thank the numerous businesses in Chinchilla and community members that were generous in donating prizes, vouchers, food, cash donations:
