Sharks may be smarter than we thought

RESEARCHERS have discovered sharks are not "mindless machines" - they have different personalities.

A team from Macquarie University observed the behaviour of sharks on Australia's east coast and found they had distinct, individual responses when exposed to stress and an unfamiliar environment in trials.

Associate Professor Culum Brown said the results demonstrated sharks were not just mindless machines.

"Just like humans, each shark is an individual with its unique preferences and behaviours," he said.
