Rural community group to build new $160K facility

A COMMUNITY based north of Roma will soon have a central meeting point, with the announcement they would receive more than $160,000 to build a multipurpose facility.

The Roughlie Community Centre will expand benefits to its members by building the facility, thanks to a $160,420 Building Better Regions Fund investment.

Maranoa MP David Littleproud said features of the multipurpose facility, which will be built in Roma, would include workshops, get-togethers and be a central point during emergencies.

"The Roughlie community may be based north of Roma, but they'll come together at the multipurpose facility to support each other through the good times and the bad," Mr Littleproud said.

"I'm a firm believer in bringing people together to support each other through thick and thin, because it has a positive flow-on effect on our communities, quality of life, and how we support each other.

"It's pleasing to see groups doing their best to leverage economic benefits for the region."
Mr Littleproud said additionally, the Roma Business Development Association plans to further drive economic growth for the region, with the support of $15,000 through BBRF.

"I've now secured more than $45 million through BBRF projects in the Maranoa electorate since 2016 which is a great result for communities in our part of the world," Mr Littleproud said.

"BBRF funded projects go a long way to improving services, events, facilities, creating jobs and securing a fair share for communities that have been battling through drought."

Round Four of BBRF includes a total $200 million in grants, with projects falling under the Infrastructure Projects Stream or the Community Investments Stream.
