Roos skipper 'confident' Petrie will make cut for Crows clash

AFL: North Melbourne veteran Drew Petrie won't be dropped for the first week of the finals if captain Andrew Swallow has his way.

Swallow said the team needed Petrie, who was one of four veterans axed by the club for next year.

"It'd be hard to go into a game without him,” Swallow said.

"When he's not marking the footy at least he's tackling and chasing.

"Last week he probably wasn't at his best but I'm really confident (he will play). He's a competitive bloke.

"We're confident he'll be there.”

Swallow called the timing of last week's announcement a "real shock”.

"I can understand now why it was done,” he said.

The Adelaide Oval clash with Adelaide could be the final game for Petrie, Brent Harvey, Nick Dal Santo and Michael Firrito.

Swallow added it took a "little bit of time” for players to process the news.

"It was a very different feeling going into the game (against Greater Western Sydney last week),” he said.
