Victim of fatal highway crash identified as NSW driver

UPDATE 4PM: A man has died and another is in hospital after a horrific traffic crash near Esk early this morning.

Police report that at about 3:15am a car was travelling south on the Brisbane Valley Highway when it collided with a truck travelling north, about 2km north of the town.

The driver of the car, a 47-year-old from Hacks Ferry in New South Wales, died at the scene while the 24-year-old truck driver from the Sunshine Coast was taken to Ipswich Hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being treated for back pain.

The highway was initially closed to traffic to allow a police forensic team and council workers to complete their work and clear the area of debris.

The road was reopened to traffic a short time ago.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Highway closed after horrific fatal truck and car crash 

6AM: A police forensic team are at the scene of a fatal traffic crash about 2km north of Esk this morning.

Police report that the collision occurred on the Brisbane Valley Highway at about 3am.

The crash is thought to involve a truck and a car.

Police report one male driver deceased at the scene while a second was transported to Ipswich Hospital after being treated for back pain. 

The road is closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route if possible.
