Rodeo: The Wandoan showgrounds rang with country music and the hammer of hoofbeats on the weekend at the annual Juandah (Wandoan) Rodeo.

Hundreds turned out for an action packed day of bullriding, barrel racing, and cowboy and cowgirl fun.

Juandah Rodeo Association secretary Danielle Gillam said it was a fantastic event with clear skies all day.

"We had a great day overall, the rain did manage to hold off until after our last presentation and we had record nominations,” Gillam said.

More than 300 competitors took to the arena in saddle bronc, steer wrestling, team roping, and poddy rides, just to name a few.

Gillam said about 500 people attended the event to support the competitors.

"It was good to still see a few hundred people hang around to support the bar after the rodeo had finished as well,” she said.

The rodeo was the first dual affiliated event with both the National Rodeo Association and the QRA.

"A big thank you to the national rodeo association (NRA) who ran the whole day for us and brought their own secretary, so they did an amazing job of helping us run the day,” Gillam said.

"(We) definitely had a lot more NRA competitors than QRA competitors but for the first time dual affiliating it was great.

While crowd numbers were slightly down on past events Gillam said competitor number had improved this year.

"Already there's a lot of positive feedback in the community about how well the day was run and how great it was to be there and the atmosphere and just the organisation of the whole day, so a big thank you to the committee and everyone who helped set up and pack up.”

"Overall just an absolutely fantastic day and also thanks to the Wandoan Touch Association who ran the canteen for us for the whole day from 8am until 9pm, they did an absolutely fantastic job.”
