Regional men urged to Man Up to prostate cancer
ONE in seven Australian men will contract prostrate cancer in their lifetime, according to ManUp, a community based organisation dedicated to raising awareness of the life-threatening disease.
"Prostate cancer is quite an insidious thing," Ted Gimmons, the secretary of the Miles Murilla Lodge said.
In conjunction with ManUp, the Miles Murilla Lodge has organised an information night and free BBQ at the Miles Golf Club.
ManUp! have been touring regional and rural Queensland communities for the past few weeks to "share knowledge and raise awareness among men- particularly young men who think they are made of titanium and nothing like this will ever touch them- of what the prostate is and the simple testing process available to them to keep it in check".
The organisation also funds prostate cancer care nurses, provides support for men and their families living with prostate cancer, and tries to lower the rates of advanced prostate cancer in Australia and fatalities by convincing government to dedicate more funding to healthcare and prevention of the disease.
The informal dinner will host guest speakers from ManUp.
The ManUp crew will then head to the Tara Festival of Culture and Camel Races for three days.
