Teen prison escapee charged with ... stealing handcuffs?
UPDATE: A teenage girl who escaped from police yesterday afternoon has appeared back in Toowoomba Children's Court.
The girl, 14, who Magistrate Damian Carroll ordered not be identified, had been refused bail by another magistrate Tuesday morning on other matters.
That afternoon she escaped while undergoing medical checks at Toowoomba Hospital sparking a major police search.
During a brief court appearance on Tuesday, she was not required to enter any pleas to charges of escape lawful custody and stealing - arising from the handcuffs and watch house issue clothing she was wearing at the time.
Her solicitor Phil Stainton told the court there would be no application for bail at this stage and the girl was remanded in custody overnight to appear in Toowoomba Children's Court tomorrow.
