Power outage sees rail boom gates close in city

AN Ergon Energy power outage caused traffic boom gates to shut in the Toowoomba CBD yesterday.

The gates were shut due to a Queensland Rail safeguard which closes the gates when power is cut.

The outage started at about 12.05pm and lasted about 40 minutes, which was followed by another five minute outage at 1pm.

A Queensland Rail spokesman said police were notified to allow them to direct traffic.

Police took to social media to warn residents of the situation.

"Toowomba CBD is experiencing some traffic issues - every boom gate at a rail crossing is down due to a technical glitch. Perhaps best to avoid these areas until fixed," a spokesman said.
