Polocrosse teams converge on Wandoan

THE pinnacle event of the Queensland polocrosse season will be held in Wandoan from today.

Running over Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Wandoan Polocrosse Club is hosting the Queensland State Club Championships at the Wandoan Showgrounds.

It's an event that's been in the works since September last year, and club vice president Jason Erbacher said the club was looking to welcoming teams and spectators from all across the state to a weekend of the highest level of competition.

So far 77 teams have confirmed their participation, 10 of which will hail from Wandoan, across a range of age groups.

Play will take place from 8am-4pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, followed by a presentation ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

An opening ceremony and grand parade has been organised for Saturday 12pm, where the clubhouse's new shed will be officially opened.

Thursday afternoon will feature a junior development session, and on Friday and Saturday evenings renowned horse-breaker and trainer Gerard O'Brien will give a demonstration of his work.

A full bar and catering will be running from Thursday through the entire weekend, and there will be music and a DJ on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, and there will be more than 20 stalls selling a variety of wares and foods.

The club has also organised a themed photo upload competition - attendees simply have to post their photos online with a hashtag for their chance to win. There will also be evening and night time activities on offer.

Spectators get free entry and camping (including powered sites) is available. For more information email wandoanpolox@outlook.com or get in touch with them at their Facebook page: Wandoan Polocrosse Club - QLD State Champs 2016.
