Toowoomba is sick of hearing about daylight saving

TOOWOOMBA residents do not want daylight saving, and are sick of hearing about it.

That's the view of Chronicle readers after the chances of a trial run of the measure blew out to long odds with the bookies.

Betting company Sportsbet priced Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk trialling daylight saving before 2019 at $2.50.

Readers overwhelmingly voted against any changes to daylight saving in a Chronicle online poll, with 69 per cent of readers backing no shift in the laws.

While readers were more split on The Chronicle's Facebook page, the majority of comments wanted no daylight saving.

"No we don't (want daylight saving), and stop asking. We have said no and we mean it. It's worse than a nagging child asking all the time," Rob and Sharon Blinco wrote.

Residents included some hilarious reasons for both wanting and not wanting Queensland to introduce the measures.

"Getting dark at 7pm is late enough. I also enjoy the fact that when I'm up at 4.30am for work, it's bright/warm enough (and) I don't want to kill myself or quit my job," Sam Russell posted.

This poll ended on 31 January 2017.

YES - 34%

NO - 65%

This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.

"To the people saying 'no', do you mind if I now the lawn at 6am? Because I don't have enough sunlight after work," Gavin Mingay wrote.

Sportsbet's Christian Jantzen said the odds of a referendum on the issue happening before 2019 were even more unlikely, offering a whopping $6 for it.

"The acting Premier has said there are no plans to introduce daylight saving during this term of government but that might just be clever wording given the prospect of an early election," he said.
