Police warn of AFP scam email

AUSTRALIAN Federal Police has issued a scam alert to watch out for an email scam claiming to be from the AFP inviting the recipient to attend court.

"Once again we are receiving calls from the public about scams," the alert said. "Please help us make your friends aware.

"An email scam is circulating claiming to be from the AFP inviting you to attend court.

"There are several links in the email which may be malicious. DON'T click on the links - delete the email from your inbox and deleted items folder immediately.

"Remember, the AFP does not send emails requesting court attendance.

"It is vitally important that you do not give away any personal details when dealing with this type of email."

If you are concerned you may have responded to one of these emails or about a call you have received, you can report it through the www.acorn.gov.au or to www.scamwatch.gov.au websites. If you have fallen victim or paid money to the scammers, please report it to your local police.
