Police euthanise cattle at scene of truck rollover

POLICE were forced to euthanise at least one cow injured in a cattle truck rollover southwest of Toowoomba this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to reports a cattle truck rolled off the Mitchell-St George Rd about 40km north of the turn-off near St George shortly after 2pm.

A number of cattle were trapped in the overturned trailer, with police forced to euthanise at least one beast on scene.

A heavy machinery recovery vehicle was brought in from Moree to right the overturned truck and trailer, and dispose of the dead animal.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were at the scene for more than two hours.

It was the second incident today which required an animal to be euthanised after a horse injured in a rollover near Goombungee was humanely destroyed.
