Police charge teenager after robbery at servo

IPSWICH detectives have charged a Bellbird Park man with robbing a Booval service station on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old allegedly entered the Brisbane Rd business about 9.20pm, demanding money and cigarettes from the console operator.

According to police, the accused then kicked a glass security door in an unsuccessful attempt to get in behind the counter.

Despite being unable to gain entry, the man continued to demand money and cigarettes.

Police will allege the console operator complied, but the accused man became agitated when he was not given a specific brand of cigarettes.

The accused, who police said did not attempt to conceal his identity, tried to strike the console operator, but did not cause any injury.

He left on foot.

Several police crews arrived on the scene quickly and began a search the area.

Police arrested the teenager within about 15 minutes.

He was charged with robbery and obstructing police and faced Ipswich Magistrates Court Wednesday morning, where he was granted bail to appear again on May 6.

Meanwhile, police are still investigating the armed robbery of Falvey's Cecil Hotel on March 19.

A cleaner was confronted by two men at the back door of the Goodna hotel about 5.30am.

The armed offenders took cash before fleeing. Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
