Peter’s $80k dream Chevy wins facelift and TLC

A TORQUAY-based car detailer and the owner of a rare 1957 Chevy have been working together to bring it back to its former glory.

Matt Cicero from Matt's Custom Fabrication Mechanical & Exhausts on Fraser St and Army retiree Peter O'Connell have spent almost a month pulling the Chevy 350 apart and putting it back together piece by piece.

"We've done a full restoration on it," Mr Cicero said.

"From paint and panel and we've rebuilt all underneath the car too so new suspension and other parts."

Mr Cicero said the car was now worth $80,000, but the work was not over.

"We might be doing some engine based work later down the track and some motor modification," he said.

While the car may be worth almost $100,000, Mr Cicero said it was priceless to its owner Peter.

"He's going to keep it for his entire life," he said.

Mr O'Connell told the Chronicle he had been helping Mr Cicero and his team restore the car after he bought it three years ago.

"I retired three or four years ago from the Army after 40 years, I moved up here and it gave me something to do," Mr O'Connell said.

" I help them out; they're the expects but I have basic knowledge."

Mr O'Connell enters the Chevy in car shows on the Fraser Coast.
