Pet owner outraged to find dog's testicles in a cruel twist
BURNCLUITH man Cameron Young was outraged when he returned from a holiday to find his dog's testicles swollen to twice their size after someone had cruelly strangled them with an elastic band.
Whimpering and unable to walk with testicles "bright red like a cricket ball", three-year-old maremma sheepdog Beau was rushed straight to Chinchilla Veterinary Service where he was immediately castrated.
If left untreated much longer, the cruel botched neutering attempt would have been fatal.
It was a cowardly, cruel, despicable act and the type of person that would do this is as low as you can go
Cameron Young and his wife Maree live on 259ha and have never had any complaints about Beau's temperament. They said he did not have a mean bone in his body, and would often lay quietly with their grandchildren as babies.
"It was a cowardly, cruel, despicable act and the type of person that would do this is as low as you can go," Mr Young said.
"I'm disgusted that anybody would do this to someone else's dog, especially an adult dog."
It was also a financial burden the Youngs could do without, with the vet expenses totalling nearly $600, a distressing figure for the couple living on disability pensions.
"The rage I feel towards whoever did this is really tough," Mr Young said.
"I hope whoever did it is brought to justice."
RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty was appalled by the Youngs' story and said this was the first case of abusive pet castration he had heard of.
"It's incredibly inhumane and certainly dangerous for the dog if infection had set in," he said.
The incident has been reported to the RSPCA.
