Outback Comedy Gala hits the Western Downs

THE Outback Comedy Gala is bringing four of Australia's best comedians to the Western Downs for an evening filled with laughter and entertainment.

Western Downs Regional Council is bringing the 2019 Outback Comedy Gala to the region this April. The best part? It's free of charge.

Christine Basil, Ting Lim, Craig Quatermaine and David Williams will put on a free show at Kaimkillenbun and Tara as part of their 15-stop tour through central and western Queensland to provide a great night of laughs to the local communities.

This talented quartet of comedians have opened for international acts and have performed at the Melbourne Comedy Festival as well as Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney Fringe Festivals.

Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire is excited to welcome such renowned artists to the region and cannot wait for the community to enjoy some classic Australian comedy live in their own back yard.

"Our locals are our biggest supporters as we saw with last years 'Not Just for Laughs', so it is fantastic to be able to bring such high-end acts to our region to perform for the communities,” Cr Maguire said.

"Our smaller towns thrive on these events so to be able to host them in towns such as Kaimkillenbun and Tara are great and I can't wait to enjoy the show for myself.”

Ken Buckley from the Kaimkillenbun Hall Committee said he was very pleased to see the comedy event hit the smaller communities as it breathes life into the town.

"It's a free event, and great that Council and arTour are bringing this initiative to the community. Everyone is really looking forward to it, it eases the pressure of everyday life and gives everyone a night off,” he said.

The Miles Regional Arts Council will be bringing the Outback Comedy Gala to the Miles community for only $5 entry with all proceeds going back into the Arts Council.

This tour has been brought to the region with support from The Playing Queensland Fund and arTour, initiatives of the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

Outback Comedy Gala will be passing through the region over three big nights:

- Kaimkillenbun - Wednesday, April 10

- Tara - Thursday, April 11

- Miles - Friday, April 12
