NSW shivers through coolest July in 18 years
NEW South Wales has experienced its coldest July since 1997, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Two low pressure systems caused snow across the tablelands and into central NSW, the most significant snow event since at least October 2012.
The mean temperature for NSW during July was 0.2 °C below average, making it the coldest July since 1997.
Daytime temperatures were 0.5 °C below average and the coolest since 1998, with most areas of the state recording well below average daytime temperatures and parts of central NSW recording their coolest July days in over 20 years.
In comparison, the statewide mean minimum temperature was 0.1 °C above average, with average to cool nights across the south and west but warmer than average nights in parts of the northeast.
The hottest temperature in the state was felt at Murwillumbah on July 7 at 25°C whereas the coldest was -3.9 at Thredbo Village on July 20.
Casino had the warmest average temperature for the month across the state.
The NSW statewide average rainfall was 11% below average during July 2015. Rainfall was above average in central NSW, parts of which recorded their wettest July since 1993, while Lord Howe Island recorded its wettest July since 1979.
In comparison, rainfall was below average in parts of the far west and central coast, with parts of the Hunter recording the driest July since 1995.
