AMAZING PHOTOS: North Burnett house wins design awards

A HOUSE in Mundubbera has won two awards in the Master Builders Wide Bay Burnett Housing & Construction Awards.

The home of Shannon and Kevin Eastcott was built by Possco and won the best Individual Home $451,000-$550,000 and the Best Residential Bathroom.

Possco director Mark Postle said the house was a collaboration between Possco and Shannon.

"It's quite a different design with an industrial type exterior, big columns, an imposing sort of structure" he said.

"The fit out inside, what Shannon has done, is extremely striking.

"It's good that a young family were prepared to commit to a house of that quality in a country town as it's a good advertisement for our town."

Mrs Eastcott said Possco deserved the awards they received for her house, which she designed after studying a number of Victorian architecture principles.

"They took my design and turned it into something really good," she said.

"They trusted me with all my wacky choices and ideas that aren't the normal North Burnett-type materials that you would use and the North Burnett-type country design.

"They just went with it, which was good; I said this is what I wanted, they said okay and it was just easy.

"It's just something that is different and not regularly seen up here."

Mr Postle said he was surprised to win the bathroom award.

"I almost fell off my chair when it was announced," he said.

"The entry doors are like the old cold room roller doors.

"It's Shannon's touch, we just put it together for her."

He said the different entries will now go through to the Queensland finals.

"It's just a great house to have on our resume and it was such a pleasure to build," he said.

"We're definitely proud of it."
