New BMW 5 Series sees spec and price increases

BMW'S new seventh generation 5 Series may not look a great deal different to the outgoing executive sedan, but its Australian specification and pricing are set to climb markedly.

Arriving locally in March next year, the new 5 Series launch range starts at $93,900 for the 520d and tops out with a $136,900 540i. Mid-range are a 530i for $108,900 and a 530d for $119,900. All prices are before on-road charges.

These prices mean the entry-level 5 Series is up over $10k (the current 520i is $82,255), while the 520d jumps $9145 from its current $84,755.

Specification levels are seen by BMW as justification for the price rises with the 520d, for example, having "improved standard equipment equating to around $15,500 of added value when compared to the outgoing BMW 520d."

Said 520d - offering an incredible fuel consumption figure of 4.3L/100km from its 140kW/400Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel - features Luxury Line pack, LED lights, 18-inch alloys, Dakota leather, electric seats, Professional navigation, wireless smartphone charging, head-up display, Driving and Parking Assistant Plus and BMW ConnectedDrive.

Spec climbs as you move up the range, with the 540i - with 250kW/450Nm 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo hitting 100kmh in 5.1-seconds - boasting the likes of Adaptive Drive with active anti-roll bars, 20-inch alloys, glass sunroof, Nappa leather and seat ventilation.
