MP Stephen Bennett found in contempt of parliament

BURNETT MP Stephen Bennett has been found in contempt of Queensland Parliament and ordered to apologise.

The parliament's Ethics Committee on Friday released a report that found Mr Bennett had disclosed confidential draft recommendations to the Queensland Resources Council.

On April 14, Mr Bennett, the Agriculture and Environment Committee deputy chair, sent an email to committee members with the draft recommendations regarding the Environmental Protection (Chain of Responsibility) Bill attached.

The attachment showed representatives from the QRC had accessed the document. Mr Bennett admitted to the Ethics Committee he had sent the recommendations to QRC as a stakeholder seeking more comment.

The committee report said he taken ownership of the disclosure and twice apologised for his actions.

He is set to apologise to the house tonight.
