Motorcyclist suffers ‘severe chest injuries’ in horror crash

A MOTORCYCLIST who fell 25 metres down an embankment while on a group ride wondered how long he would survive until he was found.

Kevin Franklin, 75, was riding with his club in Springbrook last Wednesday when he failed to return home to Brisbane and his family raised the alarm.

Authorities were called about 7.30pm and searches were conducted along the ride but it was his concerned granddaughter Terri Franklin who found her pop.

Mr Franklin told the Today Show it was a "very long, painful wait" until he was found.

"I was lying on a rock and I sort of knew sooner or later somebody would have would come along," he said.

"But I kept wondering how long I was going to survive until daylight purely because of the pain level I was experiencing and the fact I had to lie on hard rocks behind my neck."

Ms Franklin told the Today Show she couldn't "sit still" knowing her pop was missing and joined her father in search of Mr Franklin, who she found about 12.30am in thick scrub near Gold Coast Springbrook Road at Springbrook.

As soon as I heard his voice, I knew that he was breathing, I knew he would be OK. He's very strong, very strong mentally."

EARLIER, February 11:

A MOTORCYCLIST has suffered "severe chest injuries" after falling from his bike on the Gold Coast.

Operations Supervisor David Morgan said a 49-year-old man slid off his motorcycle at the intersection of Banyula Drive and Nerang Connection Road at Nerang just after 5.30am.

The motorcycle came to rest under a parked truck.

The man suffered severe chest injuries, Mr Morgan said.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition. A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman initially said the man was critical.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident a motorcyclist, in his 70s, was rescued after falling about 20 metres down an embankment at Springbrook near Gold Coast Springbrook Rd.

It's understood the motorcyclist was on a group ride when he went missing. He was found about 12.30am and pulled to safety by emergency crews.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the motorcyclist suffered a "significant lower limb injury" and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
