Motorcyclist dies in midnight crash into trees

A MOTORCYCLIST has died after crashing his bike into trees south of the Sunshine Coast just after midnight.

Police said about 12.07am a motorbike was travelling north on Newlands Road just south of Child Road when the motorbike has left the road and crashed into some trees.

The man, aged in his 20s, died at the Wamuran scene, west of Caboolture.

Wamuran residents said they were woken to a low-flying medical helicopter looking to land.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics had intended to transport the man to the nearby Wamuran State School to the waiting chopper but he died at the scene.

Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.
