Mother of two in court for assaulting teenager on street

THE Chinchilla Magistrates Court heard a single mother assaulted an 18-year-old teenager known to her on Patrick St in Dalby on Sunday September, 29.

The 27-year-old and mother of two, Kelly Irihapiti Mea Biddle pleaded guilty to one charge of common assault on Thursday November, 21.

Police prosecutor Jodie Tehana told the court Biddle was walking along Patrick St when the teenager got out of a ute and said hello to her.

“The defendant said, ‘f**k off’ and continuing to follow her said words similar to ‘why don’t you just get another dick up you?’ And calling her a slut druggie,” Senior Constable Tehana said.

The teenager warned Biddle not to come closer, Snr Const Tehana said the victim called tripple zero before being grabbed by the hair and punched.

“(Biddle) grabbed her by the hair yelling something and punching her with a closed fist to the face and the back of her head multiple times... the victim did not sustain any injuries as a result of the incident,” Snr Const Tehana said.

Defence attorney Mr Skuse said Biddle suffers from schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, depression, and anxiety and on the day of the assault was trying to get help from her GP.

“On this particular morning she had attended her GP to discuss medication she was not comfortable with, unfortunately it caused her some stress,” Mr Skuse said.

Magistrate Tracy Mossop sentenced Biddle to nine months’ probation and recorded a conviction, placing importance on Biddles’ need for help dealing with mental health.

“There’s history there of her not being able to manage her behaviour for a number of years, and obviously mental health has come into play, so maybe she needs to be encouraged to maintain proper treatment with monitoring and attention to her mental health,” Magistrate Mossop said.

As a part of Biddles probation Magistrate Mossop said she will have to submit to psychiatric, psychological assessment and treatment through the Corrective Services.
