Mixed results for Miles Devils

ON Saturday June 11, the Taroom/Wandoan Battlers hosted the Devils’ home game against Cities at the Ross Bourke Oval.

Under-16s played a very tough game against a very strong opposition.

The score wasn’t a reflection on how they played on the day.

Everyone was happy with the boys’ efforts as they are a very inexperienced side who have always struggled for numbers. These boys show great sportsmanship week after week and the club is very proud of them all.

With the home ground advantage, the reserve grade Battlers came out strongly, dominating Cities from the start.

At the half-time hooter, the Battlers led 14 to nil. In the second half, the Battlers continued their winning form, crossing the line once more and managing to keep Cities scoreless.

This outcome was due to the solid team effort of the home side. Tries were scored by Brian Angus, Greg Symes, Jayden Baker and Dave Symes. The final score was Battlers 20 and Cities nil.

Unfortunately, the Devils A Grade side did not achieve the same result. Missing the majority of their forward pack, a very under-strength side took to the field.

Cities got away to an early lead, scoring 12 points in the first half.

A further three tries were scored by Cities before the Devils hit back, scoring two tries in succession thanks to Jamie Kerwick and Tom Guymer. Cities crossed the line again, bringing the final score to Cities 36 Miles 12.

Man of the match was shared this week and went to Tyler Keys and Locky Tribe.

The Miles boys played well but were outplayed by a side with greater depth and more experience.

Next week, the Devils have a bye and then will line up against the Bulldogs at Chinchilla on June 25.
