LOCAL businesses are getting set for the 2017 Town Proud, Buy Local initiative, and Mullins Mitre 10 is going all out.
The business is locally owned and has been in the region for more than half a century, employing 29 staff in the area.
The store will be supplying the Town Proud, Buy Local grand prize - an instant outdoor entertainment package worth $10,000.
The prize will include a full outdoor table setting, fridge, television and a number of other goodies for home decoration and renovation.
Mullins Mitre 10 manager Marcus Mullins said he was pleased to be able to support this year's Town Proud, Buy Local initiative.
"We've been avid supporters of the chamber of commerce in our region for a number of years,” MrMullins said.
"We support a lot of community events, we sponsor the art gallery.
"We just thought it was a nice thing to do. You support the people who support you.”
Mitre 10 has also sponsored numerous sporting events.
Mr Mullins said it was important to support local business and the local economy.
"We need to shop local to keep our communities vibrant and viable,” he said.
"Small business is still the major employer in Australia.”
And Chinchilla's small businesses certainly have a lot to offer, just like its unique community.
Mullins Mitre 10's Carla Walker has lived in the town her whole life and said the Chinchilla community was special.
"I love the friendly community atmosphere,” Mrs Walker said.
"I love the community.”
This year marks the third year Town Proud, Buy Local has been run in Chinchilla.
CCCI event manager Gaye Smith said without the support of local businesses, it would not be possible.
Ms Smith said the CCCI was thankful of Mullins Mitre 10 for its generosity.
"Without businesses like Marcus, there wouldn't be a campaign,” Ms Smith said.
Mitre 10 is part of the Independent Hardware Group and provides a wide range of hardware, home renovation and decoration products.
It also has a specialist mining procurement division that works with mining and gas companies to supply important products for their work.
