Man stole clothing victim was to wear to funeral

A MAN has been arrested in Kyogle for two stealing offences.

Police allege that in the early hours of Thursday morning police were patrolling Kyogle when they saw a man carrying a suitcase near the hospital.

Senior Constable David Henderson said police stopped and spoke to the 25-year-old Kyogle man, and got his name and address.

After they finished speaking to him, he walked away with the suitcase.

Moments later the police officers were advised that a man had broken into a house in Kyogle, stealing a suitcase full of clothing.

Police returned to the vicinity and found the suitcase - the man had left the scene, leaving the suitcase behind.

Police seized the bag.

Later that morning Kyogle police arrested the man.

He was interviewed and released pending further inquiries.

Kyogle police were then approached by another victim who said a bag containing all of her and her husbands clothes had been stolen from her car which she had parked unlocked a motel in Kyogle.

The bag contained clothing that they needed to wear to the funeral of a family member that day.

The bag described to police was identical to the bag located with the Kyogle man.

The description she gave of the offender fitted that of the Kyogle man.

He was arrested again and charged with goods in custody and steal from motor vehicle.

He will appear in Kyogle Local Court next month.
