Man high on ice during robbery of Brunswick Hotel

DYLAN Eric Warcon can't remember much about the robbery he initiated at the Brunswick Hotel in July last year, when he was high on ice.

The 21-year-old's long drug history was read out in Rockhampton District Court yesterday, where he and his co-accused Travis Roy Anderson appeared charged with armed robbery whilst in company and robbery with personal violence.

The pair were both on bail at the time of the offence, which saw them drag a man out of the pub and kick and punch him as they took his car keys and opened his car, to apparently look for drugs.

Crown prosecutor Megan Jones said it was an opportunistic offending which showed protracted, gratuitous violence.

"It would have been a painful and frightening episode," Judge Terry Martin said.

The court heard the men ran into their victim after they went to the Brunswick to play the pokies.

Warcon was also charged with obstructing police, after he tried to escape arrest over the incident.

Defence solicitor Jordan Ahlstrand said Warcon first started drinking and smoking cannabis when he was 12, progressed to speed and ecstasy by 14 and was using ice daily by 16.

Defence solicitor Ross LoMonaco said Anderson didn't finish Year 8 because he was expelled for drug use.

The young man, now 23, was already using cannabis, and progressed to ecstasy and then methamphetamine.

Mr LoMonaco said Anderson had two children, and was using them as motivation to improve himself so his son didn't follow in his footsteps.

Judge Martin will hand down his judgment this morning.
