A HUGE donation has been presented to Lifeline Darling Downs and South West in aid of suicide prevention.

The FKG Group Batting for Lifeline Gala Dinner was held on Saturday night in aid of Lifeline and the work it does across the region. It was hosted by the Order of St John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller.

More than 350 guests dined at the Empire Theatre and were joined by guest speakers, Australia cricket greats Mark Taylor and Merv Hughes.

Lifeline Darling Downs and South West CEO Derek Tuffield was presented a cheque for $100,000 during the evening.

"In Australia, every three hours a person takes their own life and suicide remains the leading cause of death amongst those aged 15 to 44 years," Mr Tuffield said.

"We are working towards reducing suicide by 20 per cent by 2020 and these funds will enable us to continue our work across our region building suicide-safer communities."

Funds will deliver the Living Works Suicide Awareness and Prevention training in Toowoomba, Dalby, Warwick, Roma, St George and Charleville.
