Juniors kick off season in Dalby
Soccer: Chinchilla's young players have gone head to head against Dalby in the first games of the season.
Football Chinchilla president Ross Cardillo said the teams competed in Dalby on Saturday, battling both the competition and the heat.
"The under 16 premiers... went fairly well, it was a close game overall but Chinchilla came out winning two-nil,” Cardillo said.
"There was a couple of stand-outs in the game, couple of young lads, Coby Calleja, Tyler Chilcott, so they were a couple of stand-outs in the midfields and first goal was scored by Tyren Henningsen.”
By half time the Chinchilla side had widened the gap to 2-0, which they maintained in the second half.
"(In the) second half there was a lot fewer chances,” Cardillo said.
"The game turned a little bit scrappy in the second half, both teams were visibly tired which made the game very hard because it was a pretty hot day on Saturday down in Dalby.
"So that would've slowed them up a little bit, and the game finished Chinchilla two, Dalby nil.”
But it wasn't just the under 16s, with the under 13s also taking to the field, losing out to Dalby 2-1.
"They played really well for the first 20 minutes and were all over the opposition with a couple of missed chances, then we got caught out at the back on a Dalby counter attack and that's when Dalby got the first goal,” Cardillo explained.
Halftime saw Dalby have a 1-0 lead, nabbing a second goal in the second half.
"The heat was playing on the kids a bit but didn't stop their hard efforts when Dalby took a 2-0 advantage, and in the last 15 minutes Chinchilla got a goal back through good team pressing and Robbie Titmarsh scored it to make it 2-1,” Cardillo said.
"Chinchilla threw everything at them in the last 15 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net.”
