A MAN who seriously assaulted a police officer by grabbing his crotch and "causing potential tissue damage" has pleaded guilty to a string of charges stemming from the incident.

Nathan Tyrone Perry, 33, received a nine-month jail sentence but was allowed immediate parole following sentencing in the Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Police prosecution told the court Perry grabbed an officer's crotch after being arrested and taken to the Dalby watchhouse on September 17, 2016.

The police prosecutor claimed potential tissue damage had been caused from the assault.

The incident occurred when police attended a residence in Tara at 6pm to charge Perry with public nuisance, after he stood on the bonnet of a car earlier in the afternoon yelling abuse at the general public.

Perry became aggressive when the police arrived, and was subsequently detained and taken to the Tara Police Station.

On arriving at the Tara Police Station and placed in cell, Perry proceeded to damage a water fountain and urinate on his cell floor.

Prosecution went on to tell the court at around 7pm police decided to transport Perry to the Dalby watchhouse, where he continued to violently struggle against the police before verbally threatening one of the officers who had transported him.

Perry then seriously assaulted one of the officers by grabbing his crotch.

Then contained within a cell, Perry once more urinated on the floor, as well as trying to block the vision of the cells' camera on multiple occasions.

Perry was intoxicated throughout the ordeal.

Dalby Magistrate Robbie Davies said Perry's behaviour was not tolerable while addressing him in the courthouse.

"It was totally unacceptable behaviour, making yourself an absolute nuisance," Mr Davies said.

"You carried on like a pork chop in Tara and you've come into Dalby and you've carried on over here.

"You can't threaten police officers doing their job who are just trying to protect the community from drunks like you."

Perry received a six- month jail term for the serious assault of the officer and a three-month sentence for threatening the police.

Perry pleaded guilty for 10 charges in total, including four counts of assaulting or obstructing a police officer, three counts of wilful damage to police property, one count of public nuisance, threatening violence and serious assault of a police officer.
