Jail 'changed' accused getaway driver's life, but bail please

JAIL has changed Kyle James Frost's life - but that does not mean he wants to stay there.

Mr Frost has been charged with 40 offences ranging from driving unlicensed to possessing amphetamines and being a getaway driver from two service station robberies.

Court documents lodged in the Brisbane Supreme Court this week for a bail application include a letter Mr Frost sent to his mother was tendered in which he said he had lost weight and "jail has changed my life".

Mr Frost, 22, has been accused of driving a Mazda 121 in the early hours of March 16, 2015, while alleged co-offender Tony Shiles stole $300 from a Toowoomba service station while armed with an axe and just minutes later attempted to rob another.

The Mazda's owner told police the car had been stolen as she had lent the car to a friend and it had never been returned.

On March 17 police arrested Mr Shiles hiding inside a wardrobe in his North Toowoomba residence, while Mr Frost was arrested still driving the Mazda.

Mr Frost said he knew he should return the car but had been planning on cleaning it before.

Police searched Mr Frost's mobile phone a found a series of text messages sent at the time of the robberies.

According to court documents Mr Frost said he was "doing a job" at 2.14am and could not "go near public places… with any type of cameras".

The bail application was adjourned to a date to be listed.
