It's official! James Maloney joins Penrith Panthers

RUGBY LEAGUE: Penrith have finally unveiled James Maloney as the club's big off-season signing, confirming the news weeks after the star playmaker revealed his switch from Cronulla.

Maloney confirmed to media several weeks ago he agreed to a deal with the Panthers but it was stalled due to a third-party agreement.

The kinks were ironed out and the Panthers announced their star signing on Monday.

"Panthers has the roster and the resources to achieve success over the coming years and I'm really excited to now be part of that,” Maloney said.

"The squad has a strong forward pack for me to play behind, plus some young and talented players coming through in the outside backs.”

The 31-year-old Origin playmaker has played 203 NRL games for four separate clubs before joining Penrith.

He won premierships at the Roosters and the Sharks and has represented both NSW and Australia.

He now links with one of the game's most exciting young talents in teenage halfback Nathan Cleary.

"I've actually known Nathan for a long time because he was my ball boy at the Warriors,” Maloney said.

"I'm looking forward to playing alongside him and hopefully helping him take his game to the next level.”

Maloney met with Panthers honcho Phil Gould Monday and was unveiled in his new colours.

He will begin training with Penrith in January, having just finished a World Cup campaign with Australia.

"James Maloney is an exciting acquisition for Panthers,” Gould said.

"He has regularly succeeded at the highest levels of our game and brings a wealth of experience.

"It's a real vote of confidence in the potential of our club that James has chosen to play with Panthers.”

"We are truly delighted to welcome him to Penrith.”
