Isabella Nichols takes out junior world surfing championship

SUNSHINE Coast surfer Isabella Nichols is officially the best young woman surfer in the world after taking out the 2016 Ericeira World Junior Championships in Portugal.

Ms Nichols defeated defending world champion Mahina Maeda in three-to-four foot waves with a two-wave heat total of 18.30 points, Surfer Today has reported.

On her Instagram page, Ms Nichols was ecstatic about her win.

"I seriously cannot believe this just happened.... World junior champion," she posted.

Lucas Silveira took out the men's division in the competition.
